The weather is warming up, summer is almost here, and it’s a great time to get outside and enjoy the outdoors. With many states easing stay at home orders and parks are opening up, I’m eager to get into “Go” mode with my family and soak up the sun – safely, of course.
We partnered with our friends from Crispy Green to share tips and ideas for on-the-go family fun. More on that below!
If you’re looking to get outside, here are some fun ways to make the most out of the summer during quarantine while still practicing social distancing.
- Go on walks. You’re not limited to your neighborhood. Find an area in your city that has a lot of nature or nice scenery, park there, and enjoy walking in a new area.
- Have a picnic at a local park.
- Visit a local hiking ground.
- Go on a nature walk and journal the plants and animals you see.
- If open, take a trip to your local beach, spring, or lake.
- Fly a kite.
- Find an open field and set up a game of family soccer, kick ball, or baseball.
- Have fun with chalk art! Hopscotch, anyone?
There are so many ways to enjoy these warmer months while staying safe and adhering to social distancing measures. Don’t forget to pack healthy snacks before heading out. Crispy Green freeze-dried fruit snacks are the perfect grab-n-go snack to take with you wherever you go!

Here are a few tips to keep in mind before heading out on your family adventures!
- Apply sunscreen before heading out and pack a bottle or spray SPF to reapply every 2 hours
- Pack plenty of water!
- Wear comfortable shoes
- Dress in layers in case the weather cools down or warms up throughout the day
- Bring ice packs or a cooler to safely store additional snacks like string cheese, yogurt, and sandwiches

My grandsons would love this, especially before soccer.
We are enjoying picnics outside, trampoline jumping and gardening!
Thanks
All good tips. I’d add: prepare the kids on where we are going through photos, videos, or explanations so they know what to expect.
Thanks for all of the great resources – love this site!
This would be such a great thing to keep kids and family healthy
Keeping a low profile close to home!?
I love to spend time outside with my family, and we drink a lot of water, and make exercise
I love our family adventures during the summer months and all the helpful tips for our summer trips from this(produce for kids) email newsletter !
#ProduceforKids My kiddos are spending a lot of time in the blow up swimming pool
We don’t know what will be happening yet. At the very least, we will be going to the Six Flags Great Adventure Drive Through Safari. Camp is cancelled. We are waiting to see what will happen with the beaches, boardwalks, amusement parks, outdoor concerts, etc.
I like to run outside during the warmer months!
We have 4, little ones – aged 8 and under – so getting lots of exercise, outside of the house right now, is super important to us! Something that we’ve found to be incredibly therapeutic for everyone is starting a small backyard garden, where we can safely socially-distance from others while still getting that much-needed fresh air. The kiddos love digging their hands in the dirt, while also seeing the fruits of their labors develop and ripen. Can’t wait to have that first, fresh green salad this coming summer, full of healthy veggies every color under the sun!
Thank you for your tips and positive attitude
You’re so welcome!
This is really nice my son would love it.
If not for doctors quarantine..I would be taking a bicycle or bus daily to be getting some exercise in the nice summer months…I prefer the local community pool however that is also closed at this time…I have been relegated to jump rope andmy tredmill….but my best fun is doing Tik Tok challenges and trying to stay active…without wanting to oversleep…My plants take up a daily spot as well..
I love to see children riding bikes and playing outdoors, It’s good exercise and fresh air. Good way to get some vitamin D too.
Awesome prizes for kids and very good for families in need due to Covid-19 like us.
God Bless you ALL for everything that you do!
I love the suggestions about what to do this summer
