Water Conservation

How can you help save water at home? We asked Abbigale Keefer, mom of two and resource conservationist, for a few tips:

– Fix leaks as soon as possible.
–
Don’t leave water running while brushing your teeth or washing your hands.
–
Install a rain barrel for outdoor watering.
–
Only run the washing machine and dishwasher when you have a full load.

Did You Know? You use about 5 gallons of water if you leave the water running while brushing your teeth. Find other easy ways to conserve water at home on our Instagram page.

Ventura Foods reduced water by almost 9 million gallons annually by installing flow restrictions on water-cooled agitators.

SUNSET® collects rainwater in giant basins and reuses it to keep water usage low. Plants are fed through drip irrigation systems to ensure they get the exact amount of water they need.

Fresh Express® is leading the standards for high-density planting practices, proven to increase yields, reduce growing costs and make more efficient use of land and water.

Recyclable Packaging

Recycling is a great way to reduce waste at home, but did you know some of your favorite brands are already working to reduce the amount of plastic in packaging?

Quick Facts

– More than 5 trillion pieces of plastic are already floating in our oceans.
– By 2050, virtually every seabird species on the planet will be eating plastic.
– Around the world, nearly a million plastic beverage bottles are sold every minute.
– Estimates for how long plastic endures range from 450 years to forever.

Driscoll’s® is the first U.S.-based produce company to sign the New Plastics Economy Global Commitment.

Ayco Farms recycles 80% of wooden pallets each year during their offshore production.

Shuman Farms ships 60% of products in cardboard that’s made from nearly 100% recycled material and uses 1/3 less plastic in onion bags.

Energy Conservation

From renewable energy to solar power, companies across the country are looking for new ways to become more energy efficient in how they do business.

How You Can Help:

– Turn off lights and electronics when you’re not using them.
– Use LED lightbulbs.
– Turn off the oven and cook using smaller appliances like slow cookers, air fryers or an Instant Pot.

Wonderful® invested in large solar installations and fuel cells to generate 30% of their required electricity without combustion or pollution.

Village Farms is creating clean energy from landfill gas in their greenhouses in British Columbia. VF captures 70% of the gas and pipes it to their VF Clean Energy power station.

Shuman Farms uses high-speed bagging machines to increase production by 30%, using the same amount of energy as a traditional bagger.

Protecting Farmlands

Without our farmlands, we wouldn’t have food to eat. Farmers work tirelessly to feed the nation all while taking care of the land they’ve been entrusted with.

Some Ways Farms Protect Farmlands:

– No-till farming practice
– Planting cover crops
– Collecting water runoff
– Pasture rotations

Wonderful® uses a no-till system to reduce air pollution and sustain soil health on its farms.

Mission® operates under conservation initiatives, like the Rainforest Alliance. They prioritize sustainable practices including precision farming and water management.
